Minimundus

"Nobody does it better" - that's what we demand of our models nowadays, both in terms of quality and attention to detail. What started on a small scale in 1958 has now been elevated to the art of perfection, as demonstrated in the 150 models on display of the most beautiful buildings from all five continents. We pay very close attention to the smallest details, which requires comprehensive planning and preparation. A second reason why our models look so realistic is that we primarily use original materials, like marble, sandstone, basalt, tuff, etc. - insofar as it is technically feasible.

At the heart of our enterprise are the people working in our own model workshop. All of them expert model makers, they construct new models and are also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of existing ones Even though comparatively little maintenance is required for models made out of original materials, it's not difficult to imagine that the moving models demand somewhat more attention, particularly when you think that a railway engine in our park covers more than 5000 km in one season.

MINIMUNDUS has already become an Austrian "institution" - more than 15 million visitors have already enjoyed looking at our models. But the winds of change do not stop at MINIMUNDUS's door: new models are always being added, or old ones are replaced by new, thematic landscaping is being developed and a wealth of new ideas will be introduced in the near future.

The models are, however, only one aspect of MINIMUNDUS's success story: visitors also take pleasure in the well-kept grounds of the 26,000 m² site, particularly in the special landscaping and floral displays. Six green-fingered gardeners are kept more than busy taking care of them during the season. We are increasingly interested in presenting the models in an environment which "transports" visitors - in spirit at least - to the natural surroundings of the original building: parts of MINIMUNDUS have been turned into desert landscapes or tropical rain forest.

MINIMUNDUS considers itself to be in the business of "edutainment", thus placing equal emphasis on education and entertainment. Where else in Austria can you find out so much valuable information about architectural styles, cultures and other countries on one site - not just using classical media such as catalogues, but also, in keeping with the times, with the help of 3D "walks" through the interiors of models, audio guides and original sound documentation, or, increasingly, background music typical for a particular country. Our many moving models, such as the space shuttle which blasts off every hour, are part of the entertainment package, as is our mascot, Globi, who is there to welcome visitors.

If you think that we are exaggerating a bit and don't believe us, just take a look at the results of the latest visitors' questionnaire and let our marks (1 is very good, 5 not satisfactory) speak for themselves.

As a limited company, MINIMUNDUS works according to the strict economic principles of the private sector. However, the net proceeds go exclusively to SAVE THE CHILDREN - Austria

MINIMUNDUS's contribution  has helped  many disadvantaged children, young people and families, both in Austria and abroad.
